Konami and 2K Sports are teaming up for a new baseball franchise, but it’s slightly different than you might otherwise expect from a 2K-published title: the players will all look like miniature toy models. MLB Power Pros, which Konami is developing and 2K is publishing, will ship for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii this fall.
In MLB Power Pros, every MLB player will be represented in the “Power Pro style (a miniature toy-like figurine). Gamers will still recognize their favorite baseball stars through the comic use of facial expressions, facial hair and hair styles. In addition to the MLB players, every MLB ballpark has also been replicated, including their respective famous landmarks.
MLB Power Pros will include more than one dozen game modes, highlighted by a Season Mode and Success Mode. In Season Mode, players become an MLB general manager who must control all aspects of the team, including training players, purchasing better equipment amd making trades on their way to (hopefully) a World Series win. Success Mode, meanwhile, combines traditional role-playing elements with baseball scenarios and puts it all in the context of a storyin which players assume the role of a college baseball player who wants to go pro. In addition to training the character on the field, players will have to manage real-world situations including academics, part-time jobs and social situations.
