The oft-rumored Knights of the Old Republic MMO could be more than just fantasy, given a cryptic announcement from LucasArts and BioWare today. After all, if the message below doesn’t imply a KOTOR MMO, what does? LucasArts and BioWare sent a joint email today that said the following:
“LucasArts and BioWare Corp. today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.”
Let’s break this down, shall we?
- “…an interactive entertainment product…”: that sure sounds like a game to us.
- “…will push the boundaries of the gaming market…”: this could mean it would be the first MMO to support gameplay across the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 (or some other method of cross-platform play)
- “…by utilizing the strengths of both companies…”: obviously LucasArts owns Star Wars, and BioWare nailed the first KOTOR, so….
Much like poetry, however, this morning’s message from LucasArts and BioWare can be interpreted many ways, and we’ve obviously read it in a way we’d like to interpret it. For al we know, this news could refer to an entirely new franchise.
But, it sure fuels those flaming rumors of a KOTOR MMO now, doesn’t it?
