Sega today revealed details of its squad-based first-person shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to release on PlayStation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360 and PC later this year.
Developed by Gearbox Software, the same team behind the Brothers in Arms games, Aliens: Colonial Marines will have players become part of a United States Colonial Marine squad, with which they will face an Aliens assault more intense and horrific than ever before. Driven by an original story penned by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, Aliens: Colonial Marines will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature a story-driven single-player mode and a four player co-op mode. In co-op mode, each player will assume the persona of a United States Colonial Marine and have a distinct role to play in the completion of every mission. More (presumably competitive) multiplayer modes will be revealed later in the year.
The game will pack classic Aliens weaponry ranging from pulse rifles to flamethrowers, as well as new equipment and skills. The game sounds like it will take a few pages from the DOOM playbook, with “claustrophobic environments, a brooding soundtrack and a multitude of surprises and shocks.” The game’s environments will include the stark interiors of the abandoned Sulaco as well as unique environments created specifically for the game.
