The Wolverine ripped right through theaters this summer, as America just couldn’t seem to get enough of the self-healing antihero. This holiday season, Hugh Jackman’s character will try to rip through home video players as well, as 20th Century Fox has announced that The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition on Blu-ray Disc will release Dec. 3.
It’s no surprise that video game fans are often comic-book aficionados. So, all you non-PlayStation-owning gamers out there listen up: since the Xbox One releases in late November, this could very well be the first time you’ll be able to watch a Blu-ray version of any movie in the comfort of your own living room. The Xbox One plays Blu-ray movies, whereas the Xbox 360 does not.
The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition is a four-disc edition, whereas the standard Blu-ray set is two. Whichever one you opt for, though, they both release on Dec. 3 and support a second-screen app that syncs with the movie to immerse viewers in the experience with access to concept art and interactive bonus features.
The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition will feature an extended cut of the film for the first time ever in the entire X-Men franchise, allowing viewers to go further into the creation of the darker Wolverine and the journey that he undertakes.
In The Wolverine, the antihero faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that takes him to modern-day Japan. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his limits, Wolverine confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
In addition to the Extended Cut of the film, The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition includes “The Path of the Ronin,” a feature following the journey of a hero without a past; an Alternate Ending; Audio Commentary from Director James Mangold (only on the Unleashed Extended Edition), the Second-Screen App; a Set Tour; and the Theatrical Trailer.
