The legend of Peyton Manning has included a record-setting start to the 2013 NFL season, a game against his younger brother (Giants QB Eli Manning) and his return to Indianapolis. As much as Broncos QB Manning may be looking to beat up on a lesser opponent, the other side of the field may see Redskins coach Mike Shanahan looking for some blood as well. But Denver will also need to ante up on defense, as Redskins QB RG3 will look to continue the personal momentum he built during Washington’s Week 7 win over the Chicago Bears. The Redskins’ final drive required that they cover 80 yards in less than four minutes, which meant managing the clock to perfection. Mission accomplished. The Redskins converted on three third downs, scored the go-ahead touchdown, and RG3 finished with 298 yards passing and a season-high 84 yards rushing. Now that Von Miller is back for the Broncos, he’ll need to play better than he did last week, as his performance will largely dictate how well Denver can contain a potentially rejuvenated RG3.
But containing RG3 won’t have an impact on Denver’s top-rated passing game or #1 offense, which may be too much for Washington to overcome. Nobody from ESPN is picking Washington to pull off the upset, even if RG3 does play better.
