In the battle of Activision vs. EA, the Guitar Hero publisher has fired the latest music-game volley, announcing today that music from the legendary singer/guitarist Jimi Hendrix will be included in Guitar Hero World Tour. Not only that, but Jimi Hendrix will also be a playable character.
Two of Hendrix’s most recognizable master tracks, a live recording of “Purple Haze” from 1969 and “The Wind Cries Mary” will be included on the game disc. Additional exclusive songs will be available later as downloadable content on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and although other companies collaborating with Neversoft while working on a Wii version (Vicarious Visions) and PS2 version (Budcat), it’s unclear how the later-released Hendrix music will reach those systems. The initial two songs will definitely be included on the Wii and PS2 game discs, though.
