With all the Xbox Games with Gold talk, it’s easy to lose sight of other less-marketed games for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Let’s change that, shall we? The Xbox One CONTRAST game is now available for download, and it looks outstanding. Versions for PlayStation 3, PS4 and Xbox 360 are also available.
The adventure/puzzle game CONTRAST originally launched on Nov. 15 last year, but the Xbox One CONTRAST version has been in the works since then. Heavy on style and seemingly just as focused on substance, CONTRAST is part of the ID@Xbox self-publishing program.
So what all’s happened since CONTRAST’s original release? Lots of refinements and HD polishing. CONTRAST draws players into a noir-driven 1920’s dreamscape that blurs the lines between magic, intrigue and deception. Players take on the role of Dawn, the imaginary friend of a little girl named Didi. Dawn has the unique ability to shift from the 3D fantasy stage into the 2D shadowscape. The result mixes 3D and 2D gameplay in some clever ways to solve intricate puzzles.
The game is known best for its shadow gameplay mechanics, although its original CONTRAST soundtrack is slick enough that it’s available for preview and purchase on iTunes. The game itself costs $14.99 on Steam ($19.99 for a Collector’s Edition), while the Xbox One CONTRAST version, Xbox 360 version and PS3 and PS4 versions are all available for $14.99.
