Another Mel Brooks classic is getting a re-release soon, posing the unique opportunity for home viewers to ask whether the film will be interesting or “shtupid.” Twentieth Century Fox will release the Young Frankenstein: 40th Anniversary Blu-ray edition on Sept. 9.
The set, which you can pre-order on Amazon for just $9.99, includes the feature film and nine bonus features.
Those bonus features include a full commentary track by Mel Brooks; interviews with Marty Feldman, Gene Wilder and Cloris Leachman; an “Inside the Lab: Secret Formulas to the Making of Young Frankenstein” featurette; a “Blucher Button”; a featurette called “It’s Alive: Creating a Monster Classic”; a “Making FrankenSense of Young Frankenstein” featurette; a vignette called “Transylvanian Lullaby: The Music of John Norris”; deleted scenes and outtakes; and a full gallery of production photos.
Young Frankenstein is a hilarious riff on Mary Shelley’s classic story. After inheriting his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, young Dr. Frankenstein (played by Gene Wilder) follows in his ancestor’s freaky footsteps as he sets out to reanimate a dead body.
The film currently holds the 13th spot on the American Film Institute’s list of the top 100 funniest films.
