As we near the halfway mark of September, a pattern has definitely emerged with the PlayStation Plus September 2014 free game lineup for PS4. The two free games for PS Plus members, Sportsfriends and Velocity 2X, are proving quite different in popularity.
In previous months, the two free games associated with the PS Plus program have been on par with one another in quality and popularity. Sony deserves credit for finding partners willing to live-up to the former, which in turn has a direct correlation to the second.
But as “quality” as Sportsfriends may be, it’s Velocity 2X that seems to be distancing itself as the more popular of the two PlayStation Plus September 2014 free games.
Velocity 2X is the sequel to Velocity Ultra and has players engage both in space combat and land-based gunplay with some platforming action thrown in for good measure.
Velocity 2X was bound to see lots of free downloads among PS Plus members, because the game launched for free to PlayStation Plus members the same day it went on sale for non PS Plus members. What’s happened since then has been remarkable, with those downloads translating into high ratings and some people calling it a PS4 game of the year contender.
The second PlayStation Plus September 2014 free game, Sportsfriends, hasn’t fared quite as well in the publicity department. But the game certainly has no shortage of fans, and its 82% rating on Metacritic is just a few points below its PS Plus September 2014 kin.
The difference in download volume doesn’t appear dramatic on the surface, but that’s in large part because Sportsfriends first released in May. As stated above, Velocity 2X made its debut earlier this month as part of the the PlayStation Plus September 2014 free game lineup.
PS3 owners looking for their PlayStation Plus September 2014 free games have also found two titles. Unfortunately, the highest-profile one is almost two years old.
The first of the free PS Plus games in September for PS3 owners is PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, which first hit stores in November 2012. The all-franchise beat-em-up game should really need to introduction due to its age. The other game PS3-owning PS Plus members get free in September is HOARD, an action-strategy game in which players try to conquer a medieval kingdom.
