The TV and movie studios find home viewers in that odd period between early-fall blockbusters and pre-holiday releases. However, there are quite a few Blu-ray new releases on October 21 worth reviewing, including one of the most high-profile TV Blu-ray sets to release in some time.
Arguably the two most-popular new Blu-ray releases this week will be Downton Abbey Seasons 1-4 and Sex Tape starring Cameron Diaz. Though their content is decidedly different, both Blu-ray new releases are geared toward grown-ups.
Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Seasons 1-4 from PBS could very well be the Blu-ray new release this week that ends up selling the most. That’s partially due to its competition on the shelves, but also because the Downtown Abbey series is just plain awesome. Yes, things got pretty stressful in Season 3, but they picked up again in Season 4, which is also included in the set.
Sex Tape with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel is the other Blu-ray new release this week that’s likely to top the charts. Though the movie didn’t knock the box office’s socks off, it seems like a much better candidate for purchase by a home-viewing crowd.
Perhaps the weirdest yet most pop-culturally relevant of the Blu-ray new releases on October 21 is Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series. If you caught the Pee-week’s Playhouse live stream over the weekend, chances are you’ll find yourself drawn to the complete series Blu-ray set too. If you didn’t see the live stream, you still may consider this one — as a white elephant gift for the holidays.
Since we’re less than two weeks from Halloween, a few thematic movies and compilations are also among the Blu-ray new releases on October 21. Chief among them is The Vincent Price Collection II, Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort and See No Evil 2.
