Say what you will about tactical and strategy games on a console, but the Samurai Warriors franchise has sold more than 34 units worldwide. It’s safe to say that the release of Samurai Warriors 4 today for PlayStation 4 and PS3 will see its share of celebratory high fives.
Samurai Warriors 4 also marks the first time the franchise has appeared on a next-gen console. Xbox One owners are out of luck, as are Xbox 360 ones, though the Samurai Warriors franchise has always performed (and sold) better on PlayStation.
Samurai Warriors 4 includes 55 playable characters, some of which are returning favorites and some of which are new warriors. In the case of the fan-favorites, each character model has received “major graphical upgrades” in addition to rearranged battle moves.
Some of the new maneuvers include Hyper Attacks, which allow for rapid movement on the battlefield, a powerful Rage Attack, and a new type of finishing moves called Mighty Strikes.
PlayStation 4 owners also get an exclusive Samurai Warriors 4: Special Anime Pack. This content includes materials like the Samurai Warriors: Legend of Sanada anime, the official game soundtrack, and several DLC packs housed in commemorative 10th anniversary Collector’s Edition packaging.
The core game costs $59.99. while the Special Anime Pack costs $74.99.
