There’s a new Castlevania game on the horizon for PS3 and Xbox 360, Konami announced at E3 2009, and it sounds like it’s shaping up to be a doozy. Called Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, the Xbox 360 and PS3 game will ship sometime during 2010. Yes, that’s a long wait.
Shown in trailer form only in 2008 as a game called “Lords of Shadow,” the game marks a distinct departure from the normal Castlevania mythos. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow takes place at the end of days, as Earth’s alliance with the Heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force. You’d never guess that they’re called the Lords of Shadow, would you?
The game will take players through a massive open world in which the souls of the dead wander restlessly while evil creatures roam free. The main character, Gabriel, is part of elite group of holy knights called the Brotherhood of Light who are charged with protecting and defending the innocent against the supernatural.
Guiding Gabriel will be the spirit of his wife, who was brutally murdered by the evil forces. Armed with the Combat Cross, Gabriel must encounter the three factions of the Lords of Shadow and end their unholy rule. This adventure will take him across snowy mountain ranges, through Gothic castles and over undead-strewn wastelands in a devastated Southern Europe during the Middle Ages.
Kojima Productions isn’t at the helm of this Castlevania game, but it’s maintaining a close connection to the development team at Mercury Steam.
