Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge Mode, the fourth game mode revealed for L4D2, was unveiled today by Valve and will likely lead to even more late-night sessions that Left 4 Dead fans had originally bargained for.
In Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge Mode, players will compete in round-based games with up to eight total players. These players will be divided into two teams of four: Survivors vs. Infected. The Survivor team will battle the Infected as well as the in-game timer as they collect gas cans to refuel a generator on each map. Sort of like hitting a checkpoint in the old Outrun games, Survivors can add time to the clock (and score a point) by pouring cans of gas into the generator.
The Infected team, meanwhile, which is essentially playing defense, will play as the boss Infected — including the new Spitter, Jockey and Charger enemies). Playing as these three Infected types, players must keep the Survivors from fueling the generator by attacking them or destroying the gas cans.
One complete round of the new L4D2 Scavenge mode is comprised of each team playing each side. The round winner will be determined by whichever team successfully delivers the most cans.
Left 4 Dead 2 is set to release exclusively for Xbox 360 and PC on November 17.
