Gears of War 3 has gone gold and will launch on Sept. 20, but to help fill the COG-sized void in Gears fans’ gaming lives, Microsoft today announced the Gears of War 3 DLC plans by unveiling what’s being called the “Gears of War 3 Season Pass.”
The Gears of War 3 Season Pass grants players access to the first four installments of Gears DLC during the next year, starting with the first batch of Gears of War 3 DLC that will release this November. Oh, and buying the Gears of War 3 Season Pass will get you a 33-percent discount on the DLC compared to buying it all individually.
That’s a nice deal, even if it is a clever way to milk a fanbase for guaranteed revenue and artificially inflate the game’s launch-day revenue.
The Gears of War 3 Season Pass will be available Sept. 20 — the same day Gears of War 3 will go on sale — for 2,400 Microsoft Points. Again, that represents a 33-percent savings versus purchasing the Gears of War 3 DLC individually. The Gears of War 3 Season Pass also includes an exclusive Liquid Metal Weapon Set.
Gears of War 3 has already surpassed 1.3 million pre-orders worldwide, making it the fastest pre-selling Xbox exclusive in the history of the platform.
Interestingly, 1.3 million players also played more than 20 million matches in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta this past spring. Could it be that the only people who pre-ordered Gears of War 3 are the same ones who played the beta?
If you want to change that, feel free to use the following link to pre-order one of the three flavors of Gears of War 3 — Standard ($59.99 USD), Limited ($79.99) and Epic ($149.99) — from Amazon.com: Gears of War 3 at Amazon.
