My four-year-old son has unearthed a new fascination with rainbows, to the point that we’ve spent many a minute discussing water, light and refraction. Is the concept beyond a four year-old boy? Maybe, but he digs the lesson anyway. But while teaching him about rainbows, I stumbled upon a movie from 20th Century Fox called “A Shine of Rainbows,” and it seemed like an appropriate new DVD giveaway in light of my son’s fascination.
In A Shine of Rainbows, an orphaned boy named Tomas is adopted by Marie O’Donnell (played by Connie Nielsen, from Gladiator) to live on an Irish isle filled with new friends, secret caves and a lost baby pup seal stranded on the coast. But when Marie’s reluctant husband Alec (played by Aidan Quinn) refuses to accept Tomas as his own son, the boy drifts down a fateful path of adventure and self-discovery, illuminating how rainbows can shine around and within us all.
OK, so the description’s a bit cheesy, but the film itself won a Heartland Festival “Truly Moving Picture” award, so it can’t be all that bad. Plus, it’s got Aidan Quinn, so there’s a certain level of endorsement just by having a mid-major named actor. And hey, it’s free for the winner, so there’s literally nothing to lose but the 25 seconds it takes to enter this contest using the form below.
