Warner Bros. has announced a delay to the Batman 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release date, pushing the film to December 9. The delay does not affect Best Buy, which has apparently negotiated timed exclusivity for the Batman 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray and will begin selling it November 11.
Nov. 11 was the film’s originally planned release date. All other retailers and e-tailers will now begin selling the Batman 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on December 9.
The Batman 25th Anniversary Blu-ray is a two-disc set that comes packaged in Warner Bros.’ new Diamond Luxe collector-style packaging. In addtion to the movie, the disc will include a bonus feature called Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster. This special feature looks at the marketing and merchandising for this first Batman movie, which really set the stage for the subsequent 25 years of comics-based movies.
Releasing Batman at this time isn’t just a great “blast from the past” for Michael Keaton fans, though truth be told that’s a great feature. Instead, it’s tied to the 75th anniversary of the debut of DC Comics’ Batman character.
