It’s time to head back underground to start grabbing gems and smashing slimes, both of which you can see in a new Boulder Dash-XL trailer released today for the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC game. Boulder Dash-XL is slated to release for XBLA and Windows PC (via digital distribution) this summer.
In this new Boulder Dash-XL trailer, you can see how the game’s hapless hero, Rockford, has been modernized and turned into an HD avatar in preparation for his all-new game. Boulder Dash’s tricky puzzle and dexterity-based gameplay debuted in the early ’80s and have made it one of the best-loved retro games around. With Boulder Dash-XL, Kalypso hopes the game’s new look will generate an all-new fanbase of gamers who want nothing more than to collect sparkling diamonds while besting hordes of enemies and avoiding numerous traps. And, yes, keeping an eye out for falling boulders.
When it’s available for download later this summer, Boulder Dash-XL will feature 720p graphics, five new game modes (Arcade, Puzzle, Zen, Time Challenge and a Retro Mode with 25 Caves), a new scoring mechanism, four different game worlds, more than 150 new Caves, online Leaderboards and Achievements.
