The next console generation hits this fall, but Ubisoft wants us to not lose sight of the present generation, and in fact even look to the past. The Old West past. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger will soon release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and judging by the details released today about the game’s protagonist, it’s going to be one helluva ride. The official Call of Juarez: Gunslinger teaser trailer shows the game is shaping up to be a fantastic visual treat too, shooting down any doubters’ perception about a digital-download title requiring low-rez sprites.
From the dust of a gold mine to the dirt of a saloon, Call of Juarez Gunslinger is a real homage to the Wild West tales and era. Players will live the epic journey of Silas Greaves, a ruthless bounty hunter who spent his life on the trail of the West’s most notorious outlaws. Now it is Silas’ time to tell his story, which is linked to the history of the Wild West era: a mix of myths and historical facts. The game’s plot will include “memorable encounters” with some of the West’s most notorious names such as Pat Garret, Jesse James and Butch Cassidy.
Techland’s previous Call of Juarez outings have been outstanding, particularly the first two games, which took place in the Old West. Their return to that setting with Gunslinger shows just how much refining they’ve done to the game engine, while the voiceover for the teaser trailer shows they’ve not missed a step with the voice acting or storytelling elements.
Gunslinger is one of my must-play games of Q1, and today’s release of the teaser trailer only hastened by desire to get my hands on those digital six-shooters. I can’t wait to ride through the Old West with Ubisoft’s new Gunslinger.
