French developer App Anonyme has released City Monkey 2.0, an update to their online Worms-like game developed for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Users play online against other random players, invite friends, or can train against computer. The gameplay is simplified, the player can’t move, but only shoot, this is made to focus mostly on the shoot and to speed up the game.
Players must use the wind efficiently to target the enemy. The best quality of this game, is the speed, players nearly never wait as they each do their shoot at the same time, and then, see the opponent shot. This system and the simplicity are very appreciated by the players, i have very good comments about it. There is for now around 9000 active players on it, and there’s always a random player available.
Another focus on this game is about the community, as you get more points, you unlock new weapons, your level upgrades and the headband of the character changes, symbolizing his experience and strength (the supreme honor is for the 3 first players who get decorated with crowns)
You play this game like a classic artillery game (set the angle with your finger, then set the power by pressing a certain time). You must take account of the wind as it influences (a lot) the shot. The environment is drawn in pixel art. The characters are monkeys standing on buildings, this is a tribute to the old “Gorilla” game (from 1991) which was one of the first in the category.
City Monkey version 2.0 offers improved animations and graphics with a new background added, introduces a anti-cheat system, as well as fixes minor network bugs.
