Full disclosure: I haven’t played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and I’m frankly excited to do so. But judging by almost 500 user reviews of the now-available game, the high praise from the gaming press means nothing, and end users are pretty upset at what they feel is a subpar product.
As highlighted in an article at GamePro, “online users on Metacritic are coming out in droves and bashing the latest Call of Duty installment.” The reasons are varied, from comments like “this was the exact same game I’ve been playing for two years” — which I said about Gears of War 3, as well — to a comment that “There is nothing innovation going on anymore with Modern Warfare.”
Again, having not yet played COD: Modern Warfare 3, I’m not privy to the reasons why people might be making these claims, but seeing the discrepancy between the press rating (96%) and the user rating (28%), it definitely gives one reason to pause and read the user commentary carefully.
