The Mass Effect 2 demo is available today for PS3, marking the first time Commander Shepard has been playable on Sony’s console. Via the demo, gamers can experience three of the game’s most memorable missions: the opening sequence, the investigation of a vacant planet and a mission to recruit Mordin Solus.
The full retail version of Mass Effect 2 will be available for PS3 January 18, 2011.
Mass Effect 2 for PS3 will include six hours of bonus DLC missions, including Lair of the Shadow Broker. Mass Effect Genesis will also be available through the Cerberus Network, an in-game online interface that allows gamers who purchase the game new to receive free content. There will be an interactive comic to bring players up to speed on the events of the original Mass Effect and which also gives them options to choose how their storyline will play out in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.
All three versions of Mass Effect 3 — PS3, Xbox 360 and PC — will launch simultaneously for the first time next holiday season. For those who do not purchase the game new, Cerberus Network codes will be available for $10 on the PlayStation Network.
