DailyGame will soon launch a special section to review D-BOX encoded Blu-ray movies and discuss the motion technology provided by D-BOX. In preparation for our new section, we asked Guy Marcoux, D-BOX Marketing Director, to prepare the following contributed article about how exactly the D-BOX technology works, and what it will soon offer to home theater enthusiasts.
In the cinematic environment, we are used to being seduced by a space filled with imaginative ways to help us forget about the everyday stress of the world outside. This world of fantasy was first realized through sight, then through sound. But soon, motion will also become part of the everyday film experience, thanks to an innovative line of products from D-BOX Technologies. At D-BOX, we are thrusting motion into the mainstream, applying our Motion Code to some of Hollywood’s most anticipated and popular blockbusters, then providing the hardware to experience Motion for yourself in the comfort of your own home.
We recognize the merits of superb visual definition and heightened audio interpretation, both of which are key components of the Blu-ray Disc format. Yet D-BOX Technologies has opted to not simply reinvent the wheel, but in fact steer it toward the virtually unexplored dimension of Motion Effects (MFX) that mark the true evolution of home entertainment: from audio effects to visual effects and, now, MFX.
MFX are generated through sophisticated D-BOX Motion Code System technology to create real-life Motion through your seating, perfectly synchronized to on-screen movie and gaming action. This movement is encoded frame by frame by our skilled Motion Designers, and it is NOT activated by bass sound, nor does it simply tilt and pivot. All of the MFX are composed of both intelligent vibrations and movements (Pitch, Roll and Heave) which gently yet precisely move you forward and backward, from side to side and up and down.
We achieve this through the use of proprietary advanced robotics technology: built-in, commercial-grade Motion Actuators that include pistons, low-friction motion devices and high-tech motors. It’s like having three little robots under your seat to move you in perfect unison with all of the on-screen action. They’re small yet powerful, maintaining the capability of producing a dynamic range of up to 2 Gs of acceleration. Although you only move a maximum of 1.5 inches in any direction, you will feel like you’re right in the middle of the movie.
Everything is orchestrated by the Motion Controller, the “brain” of D-BOX, which is about the size of a Blu-ray Disc player. It automatically updates D-BOX Motion Code for your favorite movies via the Internet from our exclusive Motion Code Library. Simply insert your Blu-ray Disc or DVD into your player, and your Motion Controller will read Motion Code automatically. It then syncs Motion Code to the current Blu-ray or DVD movie being played, precisely recreating the movements on screen, from the exciting swerve of a car chase and the uplift of a helicopter ride to the blows of a battlefield and the subtlety of a boat floating downstream on a gentle river. It’s that simple.
The result of all of this is a movie experience that was previously impossible in any cinematic environment, let alone home theaters: you will actually feel as if you’re inside the movie. Once you’ve tried a D-BOX Motion Code system, you’ll never want to watch another movie without it. D-BOX MFX are totally addictive; you will never get enough of living the action. This technology is available for Home Theater, Gaming and soon for the Commercial Theater Environment, and we are pleased to partner with DailyGame to bring you reviews of D-BOX encoded Blu-ray movies in the near future.
