The Destiny release date is less than one week away, with the Bungie and Activision marketing teams continuing to hit homeruns leading up to Tuesday. Their next at-bat sure looks like another, as it will appear live during tonight’s NFL Kickoff between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks on NBC.
We’ve seen plenty of in-game footage from Destiny, and 4.6 million people played the Destiny beta on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. But during tonight’s Packers / Seahawks game, millions more will be exposed to the game via a live-action video.
Called “Become Legend,” the video was directed by Joseph Kosinski, whom people may remember as the director of Oblivion and TRON: Legacy. Comprised of live action, not in-game footage, the video shows a Fireteam of Guardians on a road trip across the Solar System. Their goal, as in the game: to face humanity’s enemies, take back what’s ours and become legend.
Music fans, take note of this little tidbit: the Destiny Become Legend spot has Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” as the background music.
You’ll be able to watch a 90-second version of the Destiny Become Legend video live during NFL Kickoff on NBC tonight. Since you’re online right now, you might be interested in watching a bit of the extended “director’s cut” version, if you will.
For the five people who aren’t aware, Destiny ships for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 on Sept. 9. It’s one of the most-anticipated games of the year, and in some respects is already poised to win game of the year when the awards roll out in December.
Activision (publisher) and Bungie (developer) worked with agency 72andSunny to create this live-action Destiny launch trailer.
The official launch trailer showing in-game footage can be viewed here. As we’ve noted before, make sure you keep an eye out for what appear to be dragons in Destiny, certainly a low-tech enemy nobody had expected to see in Bungie’s latest sci-fi game.
