As you’ve gathered from our recent spate of 3D Blu-ray reviews and news, the 3D craze has engaged me to the point that I get giddy each time I learn of a new 3D Blu-ray release and/or hear about a new game that supports 3D gameplay. (Black Ops 3D impressions coming soon, by the way). I realize not everyone’s on the 3D bandwagon, either because they’re not sold on the glasses (which aren’t that bad) or because the prices still carry that early-adopter premium, but it’s bound to happen. Maybe not soon, but 3D will invade your home.
As it stands, we’ve reviewed just about every 3D Blu-ray Disc released so far, and the game reviews are coming soon as well — although we’ll only have time to get to the highest-profile ones. But just what, exactly, are they? In fact, while we’re at it, what are all the stereoscopic 3D games and movies available today?
It’s not just you asking those questions; we were too. And, by the sounds of it, so were quite a few people via the PlayStation Blog, which researched the full list of 3D Blu-rays and games for the PS3. The full list of each category is below. At first glance the number of 3D Blu-rays and games is quite paltry, and the 2011 3D game lineup looks particularly slim. But it’s important to keep in mind that the 3D technology is still quite new, and game publishers, game developers and movie studios haven’t been certain when, or whether, to throw their full weight behind it. Now that 3D TVs are starting to gain traction, even just a small bit, we’re bound to see these numbers creep up. In fact, CES will likely see tons of 3D announcements from the movie studios, and E3 2011 will certainly reveal a host of 3D games we’ve not yet even heard about.
So, consider the following lists of stereoscopic 3D Blu-rays and games current and final as of December 21, 2010, but likely to change and evolve in even just the next two weeks.
