Gameloft, a leading global publisher of digital and social games, has announced it has signed a licensing contract with Universal Partnerships & Licensing to develop and publish the game for the latest installment of the franchise built on speed: “Fast Five.” Historically, “The Fast and the Furious” franchise is the best-selling movie-based and racing franchise in mobile gaming with seven game releases and more than 15 million paid downloads to date. “Fast Five The Movie: Official Game” will be available for mobile phones, smartphones and tablets on April 28, the day before the action-thriller’s release on April 29, 2011.
“We are very pleased to bring ‘Fast Five’s’ eye-popping universe of high-powered car chases to all mobile platforms for which we develop games,” said Gonzague de Vallois, Senior Vice President Publishing of Gameloft. “The official game will captivate even the most hardcore fans of the franchise while recreating the film’s atmosphere down to the most minute detail.”
In a truly faithful recreation of the high-speed action from the movie, players will control Brian O’Conner, a wanted fugitive who must assemble the best drivers to evade being captured. At the wheel of the main character’s cars, including the 2011 Dodge Challenger, players will tear through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong and the Dominican Republic while avoiding obstacles that turn up from explosions, structure collapses and vehicle crashes in real time, making this one of the most immersive and attractive games in its genre.
“We are familiar with the high quality of Gameloft’s digital video game productions and are thrilled to bring an immersive, cinematic experience to mobile platforms,” said Calvin Lim, Director of Mobile, Universal Partnerships & Licensing. “We are eager to see our film, ‘Fast Five,’ come to life on mobile devices, smartphones and tablets all over the world.”
