LucasArts is having a big month. First, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed ships to above-average reviews, then today, the company posted a demo for Fracture, an Earth-altering action game for both PS3 and Xbox 360. The Fracture demo is now available on both the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network.
The Fracture demo gives players an initial glimpse of the game world and its “Terrain Deformation” technology, which lets players create on-the-fly cover from enemy fire and solve puzzles by altering the landscape with their weaponry.
The demo has players guiding Atlantic Alliance soldier Jet Brody through the deadly world of 2161, where years of environmental disaster have resulted in a geographically fragmented United States and a battle for the very definition of what it means to be human. In other words, it’s a section ripped straight from the full retail game.
When Fracture ships, players will also be able to test their mettle in multiplayer modes for 12 players that fully support the Terrain Deformation technology. The demo, however, is for single players alone.
Fracture will release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on Oct. 7 in North America and on Oct. 10 in Europe.
