Few family games this year have captured kids’ attention like Skylanders Trap Team. Though the game isn’t without its hiccups (read our Skylanders Trap Team review), kids have flocked to Trap Team like bees to honey. As a result, we parents have been left to find cheap Skylanders toys on Amazon
The Skylanders Trap Team Xbox One Starter Pack includes the new Traptanium Portal (which has a cool speaker in it this year), an Xbox One version of the new Skylanders game, two Skylanders toys (Snap Shot and Food Fight) and two traps (Water and Life). The traps are this year’s innovation, and they’re frankly what keeps kids coming back to Trap Team over and over.
The majority of the new Skylanders game is similar to previous versions: run around defeating various enemies, grabbing coins and replaying levels with new toys to access certain areas. But this time you don’t have to just play with the real-world toys, as you can “trap” certain mini-bosses and play as them for short periods.
That’s where the traps come in, which in and of themselves are like new toys to buy. Each trap has an elemental theme, much like the Skylanders toys themselves, that allows you to capture specific types of enemies. Once you beat them you’re given the chance to trap them and play as them at just about any time — even at a friend’s house (remember: toys are portable).
