EA took the wraps off of Mass Effect 3 today, officially unveiling a game we all knew was on the way, but managing to do so in a way that’s certain to still excite gamers worldwide. For starters, BioWare and EA showed-off the first trailer for Mass Effect 3, which you can see here, then they confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will ship simultaneously for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
The same-day shipping news marks the first time a Mass Effect game has shipped for all three platforms on the same day.
Mass Effect 3, which is Commander Shepard’s final chapter in the Mass Effect universe, was shown for the first time at this weekend’s Spike Video Game Awards show. The video shown at the show, called “Earth,” is also the one linked above.
Just because Mass Effect 3 is Commander Shepard’s final appearance in the game doesn’t mean the Mass Effect franchise will die off, of course. Additional characters, or even a player-driven MMO, remain possibilities for the franchise moving forward. Slim though those possibilities may be, if Mass Effect 3 performs well critically and at retail, EA may indeed want to push the franchise’s lifespan longer than originally anticipated.
Stay tuned for more Mass Effect 3 info as it becomes available, including a specific release date.
