Melissa McCarthy is known for playing spunky characters. If she’s not careful she’ll be even further typecast as a hard-partying, road tripper. Her latest turn in such a role is in Tammy, which you’ll be able to own in November.
Warner Bros. has announced the Tammy Blu-ray release date as Nov. 11. The Tammy Blu-ray Combo Pack will retail for $35.99 and include the HD film on Blu-ray, a DVD copy and a Digital HD version with UltraViolet. If you’re looking for a deal, you can get it for $23 at Amazon.
After losing her job, husband and car in a single day, Tammy Banks (played by McCarthy) wants out of her small town existence. With no money or transportation, her only way out is with her hard-partying grandmother, Pearl (played by Susan Sarandon). Their misadventures and brushes with the law lead them on a funny and heartfelt road trip.
McCarthy’s previous role that took place largely on the road was Identity Thief, co-starring Jason Bateman.
Though Tammy seems a bit more subdued — McCarthy’s Tammy character is traveling with her mother, rather than her Sandy character being a felon — the film offers no shortage of hilarity.
Both the Tammy Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD versions include an extended cut of the film. The DVD does not. The Blu-ray version also includes a slew of exclusive bonus features, whereas the DVD version only includes a Gag Reel.
The Tammy Blu-ray bonus features include the Extended Cut of the film, “Tammy’s Road Trip Checklist,” Deleted Scenes, “Fun Extras” and the aforementioned Gag Reel.
If you’re not a disc-based consumer, Tammy will also release on Nov. 11 to stream in both HD and SD from Amazon, CinemaNow, Flixster, iTunes, PlayStation, Target Ticket, Vudu, Xbox and On-Demand providers.
