Konami first announced Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance more than two years ago, so it’s about time they talked a bit more about the game. This past weekend at the VGAs, Konami debuted a new trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and today they outlined the direction the action title is taking.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be an action title produced (not surprisingly) by Kojima Productions and developed by Platinum Games. Kojima Productions has created the story for the game, managed the cutscenes and voice-over sessions, and Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa has created the character designs. Platinum Games, meanwhile, will focus on game design and programming.
A special documentary piece will debut on www.metalgearsolid.com on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 5:00PM PST. In it, Konami will reveal more information about the development collaboration between Kojima Productions and Platinum Games.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has been “repositioned” (Konami’s word, nto ours) to be “a more action-orientated title than initially planned, with Platinum Games creating a game where the player has total control of the main character – the cybernetically-enhanced Raiden from MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots – and a total freedom of how users control him.”
This change in style has resulted in the game title being “subtly rebranded” to reflect the more action-based content than in previous Metal Gear Solid titles.
As seen in the VGA trailer, players will guide Raiden through a series of stages armed with a High Frequency katana blade. The three-minute trailer shows Raiden cutting through enemies and obstacles alike using high-speed combination attacks and free-running skills.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is slated to ship for Xbox 360 and PS3. A release date has not yet been announced.
