Having announced that the Wii 2 will hit stores in 2012, Nintendo today unveiled the first of what will likely be several Wii price drops. Starting May 15, Nintendo will change the MSRP on a Wii bundle to $149.99 and begin offering “Nintendo Select” Wii games for $19.99. The new $149.99 Wii bundle will include either a black or white Wii, the Mario Kart Wii game and a matching colored Wii Wheel accessory. This new bundle will replace the current package of a Wii and the Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort games.
The Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk controller and Wii Wheel included in the new Wii bundle will all match the hardware, meaning they will be either black or white. The new black Wii Wheel will also be available separately at a suggested retail price of $9.99.
Also on May 15, Nintendo will debut the new Nintendo Selects collection of Wii games. Similar to the “greatest hits” series on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Selects games will be comprised of popular games that millions of people have already experienced and will come at a discounted price: $19.99. The four games that will kick-start the Nintendo Selects collection are: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports. The Nintendo Selects packaging will mark the first time Wii Sports will have been made available as a separate software purchase.
