Electronic Arts today let it slip that the company’s working on a new tennis franchise at EA Canada that will be exclusive to the Nintendo Wii — for a while. One of the new franchise’s selling points is Wii MotionPlus support, a technology that EA and other publishers only learned about at E3 2008.
The yet-to-be-named EA Sports game will ship in 2009 first for the Wii, followed by PS3 and Xbox 360 versions down the line. It will be the first EA Sports game to use Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus accessory for the Wii Remote, and in fact is one of the first games announced from any non-Nintendo publisher to use that technology.
EA’s new tennis game will be the only video game to feature the All England Lawn Tennis Club — home of Wimbledon. With that backdrop, the new tennis title will let gamers play both as and against the greatest players from the past or present.
