Nintendo’s good but gimmicky GameCube bongo game Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is shipping for the Wii today, but the Wii’s new motion controls (and larger customer base) should make the game a bit more commercially and critically successful.
New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat lets gamers use their Wii Nunchuk to make Donkey Kong run, jump, swim and grab bananas, while the Wii Remote’s motion controls will let players do things like grab vines and box/punch.
In addition to its new controls, New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat has new enemies, new obstacles and a new final boss battle. Nintendo also has added special monkeys to each stage that give tips or let players save their progress.
Racing through the game remains the primary goal, but skill comes into play as gamers make Donkey Kong perform mid-air acrobatic moves to collect bananas. The more moves DK does in a row, the more bonus bananas DK gets at the end of the stage.
