Seoul, Korea – Awesomepiece is pleased to announce Pelican Paul 1.11 free for iOS, their new, side-scrolling platformer, where players control a wind-up, white toy pelican using Jump and Fire thumb buttons. Moving through a toy universe constructed of colorful, plastic blocks, Pelican Paul must collect as much candy as possible, leap between platforms when required, avoid bombs and other obstacles, and earn coins and stars. As players move between chapters, new toy worlds are revealed, including parks, factories, cities, etc. The game features dozens of imaginative utilities, upgrades, and skins that transform Paul’s appearance and abilities.
Feature Highlights:
* 5 chapters give players new environments to explore along with endless gameplay
* Upgrades allow players to enhance transformations for more power
* Universal app optimized for display on all iOS devices
* Each chapter includes unique obstacles plus new gadgets for players to use
A multilevel, single-player game with a nearly inexhaustible supply of surprises, strategies, and challenges, Pelican Paul is Retina-display ready. The game’s design elements are detailed and elaborate, and there may be more than 50 interactive objects on the screen at one time. Every inch of screen real estate is occupied by small, detailed objects, candies, obstacles, and backgrounds.
Appearing to move from left to right, but actually only moving up and down, Paul’s main task is staying alive. He is always moving forward, and players must carefully time their use of the Jump button to jump up on to platforms, jump over obstacles, leap between platforms, and collect the maximum amount of candy. As he progresses, increasingly more options open up. For example, though he starts off walking, he can soon become a motorized toy with tank treads, improving his speed and strength. Other in-game options include rocket power and night-vision goggles. Also available without going to the game’s store are candy magnets that suck in all the candy above and below Paul, and emergency repair kits that allow him to keep going after sustaining damage.
Staying alive is tricky, because jumps come up fast, and so do obstacles. When activated, the right thumb button allows players to fire a shell from a cannon protruding from Paul’s beak. Players must quickly choose whether to try to avoid or destroy an upcoming obstacle. Players earn candies, coins, and stars during gameplay, but repairs can quickly deplete their monetary resources. Players always have the option to pay for treatment and continue play, or start over again.
Each chapter ends with an adrenaline charged, brutal boss fight, setting Pelican Paul apart from most games of this genre. There are hidden methods of defeating the boss that players must discover. Gameplay is always new with Angelic Paul, Aloha Paul, Steampunk Paul, 18 Karat Paul, and many more.
“Pelican Paul is not like any other runner game on the App Store,” commented Jae Woo Kim of Awesomepiece. “There’s running, jumping, leaping, flying, and more!”
