Sony’s PS3 subscription service PlayStation Plus has seen only a few updates since its debut late in 2010, but the library-like competitor to Xbox Live has great potential if Sony does it right. On January 18, the next PlayStation Plus update will hit subscribers’ consoles with updates ranging from avatars, themes and video content to exclusive discounts on four games and/or DLC. There’s also one game that’s free completely.
Headlining the game and discounts are:
- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (PlayStation Plus price $5.00, regular price $9.99)
- Modern Combat (PlayStation Plus price $5.99, regular price $7.99)
- Juiced 2 (PSP) (PlayStation Plus price $10.00, regular price $19.99)
- R.U.S.E. — The Chimera Pack (PlayStation Plus price $5.24, regular price $6.99)
To be clear, the discounts don’t last forever. In the case of Scott Pilgrim, the 50% discount is only available for one week, while the Modern Combat: Domination 25% discount is for a single day — Jan. 18.
In addition to the game discounts, one title will be completely free to PlayStation Plus subscribers: Hero of Sparta. Hero of Sparta, which is a PlayStation mini game, is normally priced at $4.99.
If you’re a PlayStation Plus member and haven’t gotten the game discounts that are currently available, the four games and discounts below are coming down soon:
- Battlefield 1943 (PlayStation Plus price $8.99, regular price $14.99)
- Tomb Raider III (PlayStation Plus price $3.00, regular price $5.99)
- Flow PSP (PlayStation Plus price $5.99, regular price $7.99)
