Mobile gaming often delves into the world of simple, new games, so when we hear about a classic ’80s shooter such as R-Type coming along, we definitely take note. And today, that’s just what happened: development studio DotEmu released the emblematic R-Type for Android devices.
In R-Type for Android, mobile gamers will pilot the R-9a Arrowhead, the last hope of human race in its war against alien invader. The mission is clear but not so easy: blast off and strike the evil Bydo Empire.
Initially developed and published by Irem in 1987, R-Type has become an essential game on arcade cabinet, Amiga, Atari, Amstrad, Commodore 64 and PC. Today this masterpiece is ported and published for Android devices by DotEmu SAS.
R-Type for Android includes two difficulty modes and a new full-touch control system that lets players directly control their spaceship. A large number of items and power-ups can be collected while doing battle against the game’s strong enemies and bosses throughout R-Type’s eight total levels. And yes, R-Type for Android includes the famous charge shot for more power.
After passing each level, players can share their results with friends with OpenFeint.
R-Type for Android is compatible with devices running on OS 2.1+ and with a screen resolution of 480×320 HVGA or above. Supported devices include Samsung Galaxy S / Google Nexus S, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc.
