For all those new Verizon iPhone owners looking to nab the latest games, there’s a new retro-style arcade game available via the App Store called Rainbow Rage, a fast-paced game where classic arcade vibes meet the modern game arena.
In Rainbow Rage, players defend their cities against a roaring meteorite storm where every level is only 15 seconds long. Tap on the display to place shots on the screen, but make sure the “energy meter” doesn’t run out or it’s game over. Players collect shooting stars to activate a variety of power-ups, including getting their lost cities back or enabling the cities’ shields. If many meteorites are popped in one shot, the rainbow rage mode starts, giving the player unlimited energy for a short period of time and adding a multiplier to the score. Player can also connect to Facebook to compete against their friends in weekly tournaments.
The graphics in Rainbow Rage are inspired by the old retro games, but they use advanced particle systems, smooth animations and stylized artwork.
Rainbow Rage’s device requirements are for the aforementioned iPhone, but also iPod touch and iPad. The game requires iOS 3.1.3 or later (iOS 4.0 Tested), and the download is 7.8 MB in size.
Rainbow Rage is free and available worldwide today.
