Ubisoft today announced Rayman Legends will dash onto the next-gen platforms after all, and it will do so sooner than you may have thought. Rayman Legends will ship for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Feb. 25, 2014, across North America. In our Rayman Legends Xbox 360 review, we noted that “Rayman Legends takes platforming to a new level of polish and pizazz.” It will be great to see what Ubisoft musters up in terms of polish on the next-gen hardware.
In fact, when announcing the game, Ubisoft specifically said that the already-solid graphics are getting an upgrade “thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the next-gen consoles.” In addition, the loading time between maps has been suppressed, and players on both platforms will get exclusive costumes for Rayman and Globox. The Xbox One is getting three exclusive costumes: Splinter Ray, Ray Vaas and Globox Vaas. There’s only one PS4-exclusive Rayman Legend costume, but it’s a good one: Assassin Ray. Those who buy the next-gen version of Rayman Legends will also be able to buy the Funky Ray costume with Uplay points.
It’s not just about next-gen costumes, though. Players will also be able to take advantage of exclusive features. The Xbox One version will include 10 exclusive challenges to unlock new time-limited Achievements. The PS4, meanwhile, will support the DualShock 4’s touchpad for actions such as scratching Lucky Tickets. Rayman Legends on PS4 will also allow players to make and share screenshots and videos with the community, and use the PlayStation Vita handheld device to continue playing the game even with the TV turned off.
Ubisoft also announced that a browser-based PC demo of Rayman Legends is now available online. The demo includes three playable maps: Teensies in Trouble, Toad Story and the musical map Castle Rock. If you have an Xbox 360 controller, you can choose to play the demo using that peripheral or with traditional mouse and keyboard controls.
In Rayman Legends, Rayman and Globox awaken after a 100-year nap that allowed nightmares to infest the Glade of Dreams. The Supreme Being Bubble Dreamer sends them once again on an adventure to fight the evil creatures and restore order in the universe. Rayman Legends features a wide range of gameplay, including traditional Rayman platforming action and new musical, rhythm-based stages.
