Released last December, the Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One (Halo Edition) brings together enhanced audio output and mind-blowing bass for real gaming enthusiasts, taking gaming to the next level. If there was one gadget that allowed you to immerse yourself into the world of Halo, it was this.
Designed to wow and packaged to comfort the gamers as they try to disappear into the Halo world, this headset is kind of the real deal. From spells to enemies to explosions to conversations with other gamers, this headphone offers seamless capabilities, which takes your gaming experience to a completely new level.
Design
Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One does feel a little lighter for a typical over-ear design, and has got good cushy padding both under the headband and on the earpads, which allows it to sit comfortably and securely on the head as you plug away at the marathon gaming session. Made out of advanced material, it does feel a touch too lightweight and rather cheap, when compared to other models from Skullcandy that are made of different material such as leather and metal. The plush cushions with a silky smooth finish are topped off by metallic accents, making it a completely well thought-out design. The headband and earcups are connected by a solid hinge that pivots right and left to fit your head shape, resulting in outstanding sound quality whichever position it sits in. That’s that; the headset cannot collapse for portability or otherwise fold flat. The EZ stash mic sticks out slightly from the earcup and can be pulled out so it is right in front of your mouth. Designed to broadcast your voice without any background noise, the mic stops transmission as soon as you flip it up.
Sound
Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One gives an incredible boost to bass that make your sound thump at a level you would not associate with an over-ear design. Although the lower notes get a large boost, the notes of high frequency will not be muddled or lost either- there is a good degree of boost in such notes that you can look forward to a well-detailed sound pattern that might sound a little heavier than other headsets you have used. Designed with latest technology, this headset does a wonderful job in downplaying certain sounds a bit, thus adding to the excitement that only Halo can bring. With Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One, you are sure to take note of those alien footsteps right behind you, and help yourself to improve Master Chief’s chances significantly in a death match.
It has a very good EQ setup with which you are assured of an excellent even frequency response. It also means that you will no longer have to fret over about loud thuds or explosions, or other overwhelming noises playing a spoilsport.
Verdict
Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One looks good, sounds good, and can even double as a headset for your smartphone. At less than $100, it is a steal. But if you are ready to shell out the extra dough, you can seal a better deal by going for dedicated headphones and an adapter. You can get your pair from the Skullcandy online store.
