Just as Sony starts selling its PlayStation 4, Nintendo is striking back with a family-friendly bundle on the exact same day. On Friday, Nov. 15, Activision and Nintendo will start selling a Skylanders Swap Force Wii U bundle. The Skylanders Wii U bundle will carry an MSRP of $299.99 and include a full Swap Force Starter Kit, giving Wii U owners everything they need to start the new adventure.
Oh, and Nintendo’s getting something extra for good measure: an exclusive color-shifting Washbuckler. For hardcore Skylanders fans, that’s enough to justify purchasing the Skylanders Swap Force Wii U bundle right there.
All told, the Skylanders Swap Force Wii U bundle will include:
- A white Wii U Basic system
- A Skylanders Swap Force starter pack with the Skylanders Swap Force game, a Portal of Power and three Skylanders figures
- Worth noting: those three figures will be Ninja Stealth Elf, a Core Skylander, the Swap Force character Blast-Zone, and the exclusive color-shifting Washbuckler Swap Force character
- A collector poster
- Trading cards
- Sticker sheets
- A Nintendo Land game disc
The third installment of the award-winning toys-to-life Skylanders franchise, Skylanders Swap Force lets players mix and match the top and bottom halves of up to 16 Swap Force figures that are available for purchase and transform them into more than 250 unique characters.
Fans can also play Skylanders Swap Force with their entire collection of 100+ characters from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants. The Wii U version of the game has a touch-screen interface via the Wii U GamePad controller as well as the ability to play the entire game on the GamePad while someone else watches TV. A portable version of Skylanders Swap Force is available on Nintendo 3DS.
Will Nintendo make a dent in that weekend’s PS4-driven momentum? Maybe. In fact, the timing for the bundle may be a tactic to gain sales from all the disappointed moms who go into their local retailer on Nov. 15 hoping to get a PS4 and find them sold out, leaving them with a ton of cash to spend on — you guessed it — this Skylanders Swap Force Wii U bundle. It could be a very savvy move. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.
