Maybe Sony is content blasting past Microsoft in the PS4 vs Xbox One sales department. How else can the company explain its paltry PS Plus free games May 2014 list, which seemingly leaves PS4 owners out in the dark?
After a rousing PS Plus free game lineup in March and April, Sony’s PS Plus free games list for May looks almost nonexistent on PS4 by comparison. Only one game, Stick it to the Man!, will be free to PS4 owners as part of the PS Plus May 2014 program. All the rest — Puppeteer, Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, Skullgirls Encore, Limbo and Surge Deluxe appear on PS3 and PS Vita.
The only PS4 game that’s part of the PS Plus May 2014 free game lineup, Stick it to the Man! is a mix of point-and-click adventure and platforming. On description alone it sounds like Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, though in practice it’s quite different.
Gamers tackle the game’s problems as Ray, who suddenly finds himself with a giant pink hand floating out of his head. Once he gets over the initial shock, he realizes that the pink hand has given him the ability to read people’s minds and grab stickers from their thoughts to use in the world. It’s not all fun and games, though, as Ray also finds himself running from The Man for a crime he didn’t commit.
Yep, much like Alice in Wonderland, this game probably came out of the mind of an extremely drunk or high creative type.
Of the three games coming to PS3 in the PS Plus May 2014 free games lineup, Pro Evolution Soccer will probably see the most play time. PES 2014 is the first game in the soccer series to use the new FOX game engine. With the new engine, PES 2014 has been completely rebuilt with all-new physics systems, custom team and player AI, and a huge leap forward in animations. The other two games, Puppeteer and Skullgirls Encore, aren’t stinkers. It’s just the PES 2014 is a massive win for the PS Plus free games program in May.
Two PS Vita games, Surge Deluxe and Limbo, round out the PS Plus free games May 2014 list. In Surge Deluxe, players must constantly clear the byproducts of a new energy source to keep pressure levels in check by routing electrical surges between matching blocks. Limbo is a highly stylized noir-type platformer that really isn’t easy to describe. So we won’t. Just go grab it. Heck, it’s free anyway if you’re a PS Plus member, so you have nothing to lose.
It’s unclear as of yet which games will be leaving the Instant Game Collection in May 2014, nor did Sony announce when the free PS Plus games for May 2014 will actually hit PlayStation Network. History has shown that PS3 games will arrive first, with PS4 and PS Vita games arriving shortly thereafter.
Our money’s on the PS4 PS Plus free game for May, Stick it to the Man!, arriving on May 6 and replacing Mercenary Kings. Only one PS4 game in May, though, still seems like a huge miss.
