Soul Calibur 5 is on the way for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Namco Bandai confirmed today, with the fifth entry in the fighting-game series slated to ship sometime in 2012. According to the game unveiling announcement, Soul Calibur 5 will include fully 3D fighting mechanics, “breathtaking visuals” and new characters, as well as expanded online and character-creation modes.
Soul Calibur 5 picks up 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur 4, with both new heroes and returning warriors clashing in an epic showdown between good and evil. The tale of Patroklos, son of Sophitia Alexandra, unfolds as his family’s destiny intertwines with the Soul swords.
Making a return to the gameplay will the series’ trademark 8-way run, allowing for true 3D movement during matches, while a refined battle system and updated graphics will make the game feel fresh even though it’s still a year off.
We will likely have more about Soul Calibur 5 from E3 next month, so stay tuned.
