A high-definition remake of Soulcalibur II is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year, Namco Bandai announced today at Comic-Con. Soulcalibur II HD Online is releasing at the current-gen consoles’ twilight to celebrate the game’s 10-year anniversary. Heralded as one of the best fighting games of all-time, Soulcalibur II HD Online will feature the same base game that released so long ago, but with new high-definition graphics and new online multiplayer support.
Soulcalibur II HD Online re-imagines the fan-favorite title by adding online multiplayer support as well as updated graphics to take advantage of modern HDTVs. Even more impressive for franchise fans, though, will be the game’s online functionality, which will let players square-off against opponents from around the world with their favorite Soulcalibur II characters such as Ivy, Taki, Mitsurugi, Talim and Maxi. This will be the first time the game’s been online. The online infrastructure will feature brand new netcode.
Soulcalibur II HD Online will also come with the multitude of modes found in the original release including: Arcade, Survival, VS Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, Practice and Weapon Master.
“For more than a decade the Soulcalibur franchise has been one of the preeminent head-to-head fighting franchises for consoles,” said Chris Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Namco Bandai Games America Inc. “Soulcalibur II HD Online lets fans relive an important chapter of the series’ history with beautifully enhanced graphics and new online gameplay.”
