If Mario Kart Wii is starting to get a little old, Nintendo Wii and DS owners have a new racing-game option, as Warner Bros. Interactive has begun shipping Speed Racer: The Videogame for both platforms today.
Speed Racer: The Videogame is based on the upcoming film from Warner Bros. directed by the Wachowski brothers. All three primary actors from the film, Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer), Matthew Fox (Racer X) and Christina Ricci (Trixie) appear as playable characters in the Speed Racer videogame.
One of the first games compatible with the Wii Wheel (aside from Mario Kart Wii, of course), Speed Racer: The Videogame allows players to jump behind the wheel of Speed’s Mach 6 race car or the specially designed T180 race cars of more than 15 other characters, including Racer X and Trixie.
In both the Nintendo Wii and DS versions, players race at high speed while engaging in “Car-Fu” battles to outmaneuver opponents as they jump, flip, smash and spin other cars off the track. Players can choose from 19 different drivers, each of whom has his or her own car, in their attempt to win the World Racing League cup.
Speed Racer: The Videogame should be available today on the Wii for $49.99 and the Nintendo DS for $29.99.
The Speed Racer movie, which opens May 9 (this Friday), is a live-action film from the Wachowski brothers, the creators of the “The Matrix” trilogy.
