Both Cutler and Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said this week that Cutler needs to “play better,” and no Bears fans would argue. For the season Cutler has 2,365 yards and 18 touchdowns, but he has 10 interceptions and 10 fumbles as well, five of which he’s lost. Last Sunday Cutler had 272 yards, one touchdown, a fumble and two interceptions, one of which was an 82-yard pick six by Casey Hayward. Minnesota’s quarterback situation has been almost as bleak with rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater. Yet unlike Cutler, who’s seemingly gotten worse in the past two Bears games, Bridgewater has improved. The Vikings’ rookie QB has led two fourth-quarter comebacks in a row. Though they’ve come against two cellar dwellers, the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Bears defense ranks just 26th this season. As a result, today’s Vikings game gives Bridgewater a good chance to shine.
He’ll almost have to play well as we watch today’s Bears Vikings game, with running back Adrian Peterson not scheduled to have his reinstatement hearing until Monday. Without Peterson the Vikings game has still flourished on the ground. Running backs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata leading Minnesota to the 10th best rushing game, taking some pressure off Bridgewater, but Peterson would’ve been welcome for today’s Bears game.
