LucasArts today announced that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this September. The game will ship on September 16 in North America, September 17 in Southeast Asia and Australia, and on September 19 in Europe.
An entirely new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game’s story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
The plot of the game will see players assisting Darth Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi, a quest that will make players face decisions that will change how the ending plays out for them.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the first next-generation game developed internally at LucasArts.
As its name implies, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force, letting players tinker with their Force powers in ways never before experienced. The game accomplishes this through the use of two new technologies: Digital Molecular Matter, by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria, by NaturalMotion Ltd.
The Wii, PS2 and PSP are getting a slightly different take on The Force Unleashed with a separate version being developed by Krome Studios. Meanwhile, n-Space Inc. is developing a version for Nintendo DS. All four of these versions will feature the same storyline, with opportunities to unleash the Force in new ways (via the stylus on the DS, for instance, and the Wii Remote on the Wii).
