Super Monkey Ball will soon roll onto the Apple iPhone, Sega announced today. The popular multipplayer party game will get its very own iPhone software demo in the months ahead.
Super Monkey Ball was first displayed running on an iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) at Apple’s iPhone SDK event on March 6.
Other Ocean Interactive is responsible for the demo, which — if all goes well — could turn into a full-fledged Super Monkey Ball iPhone game.
“Apple’s SDK is extremely developer-friendly, and the iPhone, with its accelerometer, is the perfect platform for Super Monkey Ball,” explained Gordon Wood, Other Ocean’s Technical Director and Senior Programmer. “The iPhone is going to be a major player in the handheld gaming market, and we’re excited to be among the first to develop games for the device.”
Sega has not revealed an official release date or development plans for the full version of Super Monkey Ball for iPhone, but a successful demo will undoubtedly serve as a technology test for a future SKU.
As of press time, Sega had not indicated what, if any, price point the Super Monkey Ball iPhone demo might carry.
