We started with dial up, waiting forever to connect or download a song, now we are at the age where our consoles can stream games and TV over Wi-Fi. In recent news there has been mention of a new generation of streaming consoles. Although we have not seen the new generation and what it has to offer yet, we can only imagine that it will be a step above what we already have. So if you haven’t used a console to stream.
Streaming has been an idea in the gaming and gambling world for years. Buying games online and then streaming them is easier than going out to purchase the game and having to remove it from your console when switching games. Now that there are all the extra features on consoles, what do people think?
When it comes to streaming from a console, and whether or not it is right for you, there are a few pro’s and con’s to consider:
Pro: Lots of Content
When trying to find something to entertain yourself with, you will be sure to find something through your console. With the full selection of Netflix, YouTube and music channels and more there will always be something for you to watch.
Pro: Flexibility
Unlike regular TV where you cannot always watch on demand shows, pause them or rewind if you miss something, you will have full flexibility to control the console to do as you wish. Using your console also means no advertisements while you are watching your favorite shows.
Pro: Cost Effective
As you are not purchasing a hard copy when it comes to games or exclusive content you will find pricing for games will be less than what you would pay in a big box store.
Con: Connection
Without a strong Wi-Fi connection your console may go offline or become patchy. If you are feeding Wi-Fi from a neighbor, coffee shop or other public area it often will not be strong enough to facilitate your activities.
Con: Content
Content may not be added regularly, especially depending which country you are residing in. As it takes time to work through the legalities for adding content to streaming services you may see new shows right away, or you may see a delay.
Con: Troubleshooting
Since consoles are all different it may be hard for one to trouble shoot. It will defiantly be challenging if someone is not used to using the remotes for the console or is not technical. While choosing to use a console for streaming or not the main question I have for you is do you play video games? If you answer that question with a yes, I would recommend using a console. It saves space, money and is an all in one device. If you aren’t into gaming and you would like to just have a simple way to watch your shows I would say go the old fashion way. It may be advertised that the quality is better on some console, however it is hard to notice a quality change in the pictures when compared. A console will crash more often than a PC or Mac and with all the settings needed to be adjusted I would rather reply on a PC or Mac.
