E3 2014 opens its doors in a few short hours, giving Bandai Namco just enough time to unveil three new Dark Souls 2 DLC packs coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 game. All three new Dark Souls 2 DLC packs will release within a three-month span between July and September.
These three new Dark Souls 2 DLC chapters are known as “The Lost Crowns” trilogy. Their combined story will take Dark Souls 2 fans through entirely original areas to face a slew of unknown enemies, overcome diabolic challenges and take-on fearsome bosses.
Crown of the Sunken King, the first chapter in this DLC trilogy, will be available in the Americas on July 22, followed by the Dark Souls 2 DLC launches of Crown of the Old Iron King on August 26 and Crown of the Ivory King on September 24.
A Dark Souls 2 Season Pass program will also be offered for the entire The Lost Crowns trilogy via Steam. That obviously applies only to PC players. Bandai Namco has not specifically announced whether a Dark Souls 2 Season Pass will also be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 players, though it doesn’t seem likely.
Each individual chapter of The Lost Crowns trilogy will be available via the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Marketplace and Steam for $9.99. Per Bandai Namco, “the Steam season pass encompassing all three chapters of The Lost Crowns trilogy will be available for a SRP of $24.99.” Note there was no mention of a console-based Season Pass.
Crown of the Sunken King, the first chapter in the trilogy, takes place in an entirely different world within the Dark Souls 2 universe, where stepped pyramids span a vast underground cavern. This locale offers a setting where players go on a journey to reclaim the crowns that Drangleic’s King Vendrick once owned.
This first Dark Souls 2 DLC chapter takes players underground, as one of the ancient crowns lies buried deep within dark caverns. However, the crown won’t be unguarded. Players who find the crown will be rewarded with an item that holds the strength of lords from times long past.
