Microsoft is apparently holding a Gamers Day in San Francisco, and although they chose not to invite us — even though we’ve covered them since the original Xbox and were deemed “worthy” of an Xbox 360 debug before the console’s launch — we’ve decided to swallow our pride and let you know that Too Human will ship in August.
The irony of hearing that Too Human will ship August 19 in North America and August 29 in Europe isn’t the news itself, but the way in which it was announced: at a Gamers Day where Epic Games’ Cliffy B. and Silicon Knights’ Denis Dyack were both in attendance.
If you’ll recall, Silicon Knights sued (is still suing?) Epic Games for not providing support for Unreal Engine 3, which Too Human was created with. Because of the delay in support, Silicon Knights claims it had to re-write the game engine, effectively creating its own engine and thus removing the studio’s need to pay Epic Games any fees for the use of Unreal Engine 3.
That’s how the lawsuit goes, anyway. Epic, of course, feels differently.
So the irony of today’s Too Human release date announcement is that it was made during an event that the plaintiff and defendant are both attending. Can we expect to hear about fisticuffs between Cliffy B. and Denis Dyack? We doubt it…but it sure would make a fantastic “remember when?” story, wouldn’t it?
